Champagne, Sake, Raki, Uzo, Absinthe…what do these alcoholic variants have in common? The fact that they are extremely popular world over and each of them are uniquely associated with one particular geographical region. Goa boasts of unique alcoholic beverages that come from the humble Cashew plant – urak, cazulo, feni. We should be going to town to shed the ‘local liquor’ tag from these. Preserve, bottle, market. Goa has a universal appeal and an alcoholic drink that is their very own deserves to be on every Duty Free shelf around the world. We need to empower the cultivators, identify and support the local distillers and really crank up production and distribution.
