The visionary Manohar Parrikar executed this bypass with extraordinary design, speed and project management.
While the need for this bypass may itself be questioned in some quarters, it is not an uncommon feature along many coastal zones the world over.
The bypass stretch passes quite close to very fragile marine ecosystems – mangrove forests, backwaters, turtle nesting beaches et al
The government should certainly ensure a few things in this ecosensitive zone:
– sound barriers
– ensure no parking along the bridges
– ensure no garbage and other debris is deposited into the water bodies from the bridges
– proper parking areas are created to ensure smooth and limited tourist traffic
– no hawking/vending zone along the entire stretch of the bypass
